Proofreading is performed as a last pass over a finished document to ensure that both format and mechanics are correct.

 

A proofreader is mainly looking for stray typos,  spelling and punctuation errors, and any formatting that looks off (e.g. placement on page, color, fonts, missing page numbers, etc.).
