A comprehensive, or developmental, edit is where we take a deep dive into your manuscript and go through it with a fine-toothed comb.

 

The goal is to transform your draft into a publishable manuscript.

 

A comprehensive edit addresses:

 

• Structure and style

• Pacing and suspense

• Connectivity and narrative flow

• Character development (even if the protagonist is you)

• Dialogue

• Plot holes and information gaps

• Extraneous scenes or exposition

• Perspective, voice, and tone

• Clarity

• Genre conventions

• Effectiveness for target audience

• Industry trends and your specific publishing goals

A comprehensive edit is achieved through several rounds of edits. 

​

We'll start with an initial session during which we'll discuss your intentions for your book, including who its for and what you want to achieve with it.

​

During weekly 1:1 sessions by phone or video chat, we'll proceed chapter by chapter and line by line, examining all the elements of your writing.

 

You'll receive weekly assignments. Expect to focus and work hard, but don't worry! I'll be available by email between our 1:1 sessions. We'll be working very closely together!

Expect to make a time commitment of 4-6 months, depending upon the length of your manuscript and the level of revision needed.
